The typical traditional concept that most people have of a hearing aid is now outdated. While hearing aids are still available in classic colours – brown and beige, manufacturers nowadays have come up with an extensive variety of designs and colour choices. These choices are specially designed for users to match their hearing aids with their hair colour, skin tone and preferences. There are also fashionable and brighter colours and even glittery ear moulds now available.
The type of hearing aid that is most suitable for you will very much depend on the type and extent of your hearing loss. Every model has its own specific benefits and after you have done your hearing test with us, we will be able to advise you on the model(s) that are best suitable for you.
Besides, the size and shape of your outer ear and canal will also determine the type of hearing aid that you should use. For any preferences of hearing aids that you have, you may speak with our audiologists and they will advise you on it after examining your ear.
Since many factors are involved in determining the most suitable hearing aid for an individual, it is not possible to show exact costs of hearing aids. Several options or specialized circuitry may have an effect on the final cost.
NOTE: There are hearing aids in every price range available for any kind of hearing loss.
Yes, all hearing aids are battery-operated. Different types of hearing aids require different sizes of batteries.
It varies according to the type of hearing aid you use, the adjustment of the hearing aid and the frequency of usage. Hearing aid batteries usually last between 7 and 30 days for an average daily usage of 10 to 12 hours. Most hearing aids have a low battery indicator to inform you when the battery needs to be charged or changed.
Although some hearing aid manufacturers offer even water-proof hearing aids (which are specially recommended for children and people with heavy perspiration), most hearing aids are only moisture-resistance and should not come in direct contact with water. To protect your hearing aids from moisture and heat, always remove them before showering, bathing or swimming. Also, avoid contact with hairspray and hair gel as they may damage the microphones of your hearing aid.
NOTE: If you have difficulties cleaning or maintaining your hearing aids, you are welcome to bring them anytime to one of our 5 branches, even if they were bought elsewhere. We will clean and service them for you free of charge.
Hearing with both ears, as intended by nature, is called binaural hearing. It allows us to hear sounds accurately and more naturally. Especially in noisy situations, it gives a sense of balance and direction.
With only one hearing aid, it is very difficult to locate the source of sounds. Binaural hearing will not only avoid confusion in traffic and crowds, but also alert you to a potentially dangerous situation, such as the approach of a car from behind.
Binaural hearing requires less volume, which makes listening more comfortable and less tiring. In addition, messages received by both ears will allow the brain to hear in “stereo”. This gives the listener a natural, more balanced sound which can be understood more clearly.
One hearing aid may be sufficient in a quiet environment, but not when noise is present. Most people continually try to increase the volume of the hearing aid to compensate the lack of clarity in speech. Turning up the volume will only make sounds louder, but it would not increase speech intelligibility.
If not stimulated binaurally, our brain could lose its ability to comprehend speech, which might be irreversible.
