- The degree of hearing loss varies from person to person Between the two extremes of hearing well and being deaf, there are many degrees of impairment. The terms used to describe hearing loss are:
- mild
- moderate
- severe
- profound
- Mild Hearing Loss: Difficulty hearing soft speech and conversation in noisy environment.
- Moderate Hearing Loss: Clarity of speech is significantly affected. Higher volume levels for TV and radio are required.
- Severe Hearing Loss: Normal conversational speech is inaudible and communication without a hearing aid is impossible.
- Profound Hearing Loss: Extreme loud sounds are audible but conversation without a hearing aid is impossible.
