Consequences

Hearing impaired people are not always aware of all the consequences of untreated hearing loss. They do not always know what they are missing. Several studies have shown that uncorrected hearing loss leads to poorer quality of life, resulting in isolation, insecurity, reduced social activity and a feeling of being excluded. These lead to an increased prevalence of symptoms of depression. Such findings indicate the importance of early identification of hearing loss and the correction with hearing aids.

For those, whose hearing loss was treated, the reported benefits include better relationships with their families, greater independence, higher self-esteem and improved mental health. Their families and friends also reported similar improvements.
